The primary goal of the TIA is the advancement of technology throughout Tennessee with its accompanying economic growth. Toward this end, TIA provides information, guidance, and encouragement to those involved in innovation. It is a chartered non-profit organization in the State of Tennessee composed of inventors and other persons interested in the innovation process.
The TIA membership includes independent inventors, small business developers, engineers, and scientists from state and federal research and educational facilities. The span of technical expertise and inventions ranges from high-tech to low-tech, from lasers to games to cat toys. Other TIA members are from business-related fields and are available as consultants to the other members. For example, we have patent agents and patent attorneys as members, and we frequently have business attorneys and lawyers, model makers, graphic artists, modelers, designers, and others as visitors. Even if you do not have an invention, you are welcome to join the TIA!
03-16-13 The First to File provisions of the America Invents Act take effect today. Starting now, if anyone wants patent protection, a patent application must be filed before any public use or any offer to sell a product embodying the invention.
03-01-12 Important Notice: Inventors, if there is any public use of your invention or if you have tried to sell any products, you must file a patent application by March 15, 2013, if you wish to get patent protection. Otherwise, your invention will be dedicated to the public domain.
02-08-13 The Knoxville News Sentinel wrote an article on the upcoming change to a first-to-file patent system. Inventors wanting patent protection need to read this.
02-05-13 TIA President Carl Papa is now on Kickstarter with his Pocket PHP. He has a $10,000 goal for the funding site.
01-23-13 For a light-hearted video explaining the First-to-File patent laws that take effect on March 16, watch this YouTube video.
11-12-12 For the past week, my website has been inundated with SPAM from Davidson, an invention submission company out of Pittsburg, PA. It is never a good idea to do business with a SPAMMER.
11-01-12 The Tennessee Inventors Association has a display at the Oak Ridge Public Library. The display will be shown for the full month of November 2012.
10-25-12 It is with great sadness that I report that Igor Alexeff passed away early Thursday morning, October 25, 2012. Igor was a prolific inventor with 20 patents. Anne and family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, Monday, October 29, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. The service will be held at 8pm. Directions to Weatherford Mortuary.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ALS Foundation.
